The cottage features three generously sized en-suite bedrooms, each finished to an exceptionally high standard with thoughtful details throughout. The open-plan living space provides a wonderful area to relax, socialise and plan the next day’s adventures. At its heart, a cosy log burner creates a warm and inviting focal point, while a convenient downstairs WC adds an extra touch of practicality.

Outside, a private terrace provides the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air, with comfortable outdoor seating and a barbecue area ideal for relaxed meals and summer evenings. Secure private parking is also available for one car.

For guests travelling with four-legged friends, one dog up to the size of an average Labrador is welcome, or two smaller dogs. If you would like to bring two dogs, please contact us in advance with their breeds and ages so we can confirm suitability.

The Space

Thoughtfully designed across three interconnected areas, the spacious open-plan living area brings together the kitchen, dining and sitting spaces, all conveniently arranged on one level. At its heart, a cosy wood burner creates a warm and welcoming focal point, while comfortable sofas and quality furnishings provide an inviting place to relax from the moment you arrive.

The beautifully appointed kitchen features a generous central island, making it a lovely spot for a morning coffee while planning the day ahead or enjoying a pre-dinner drink together. Fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, it includes a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and coffee machine, making everything from a leisurely breakfast to an evening meal effortless.

Underfloor heating runs throughout the ground floor, ensuring a cosy and comfortable environment whatever the season. A convenient downstairs WC is also located just off the living space.

Upstairs, the first floor is home to two of the cottage’s three bedrooms. One features comfortable twin beds, while the other offers a spacious double bed. Both bedrooms benefit from their own en-suite shower rooms, generous storage and hanging space, and a television for those relaxing moments at the end of the day.

The luxurious master suite occupies the second floor, offering a peaceful retreat with its own spacious en-suite bathroom featuring a shower over the bath and wash basin. A wall-mounted television, generous wardrobes and a comfortable sofa complete this beautifully appointed room, creating a relaxing space to unwind.

French doors from the lounge open onto a private, enclosed terrace, where outdoor seating and a barbecue provide the perfect setting for al fresco dining and enjoying the warmer months.

Guests also benefit from one dedicated parking space within the secure gated communal area at the front of the property.

The Local Area

Steeped in history and surrounded by beautiful countryside, Helmsley is a quintessential English market town and an ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire.

Dominating the town is the impressive Helmsley Castle, a Norman fortress with more than 900 years of history. Over the centuries, it has evolved from a formidable medieval stronghold into a Tudor mansion, a Civil War garrison and, eventually, the romantic ruins visitors can explore today. The castle is open throughout the year and is cared for by English Heritage.

There’s plenty to discover within Helmsley itself. The attractive market square is surrounded by independent shops, specialist retailers, galleries, cafés, restaurants and traditional pubs. The town is also home to a beautiful walled garden, a National Centre for Birds of Prey, a microbrewery, an open-air swimming pool, a luxury spa, a nature reserve and an arts centre, meaning there’s something to enjoy whatever your interests.

For those who love the outdoors, Helmsley sits on the edge of both the Howardian Hills and the North York Moors National Park. The surrounding landscape offers an incredible variety of walking routes, from gentle countryside strolls to more challenging hikes across the moors. Cyclists are equally well catered for, with miles of scenic roads, challenging climbs and exhilarating descents to explore — all rewarded with spectacular views across the Yorkshire countryside.

History and heritage enthusiasts will find plenty to explore nearby, including the magnificent Castle Howard, the atmospheric ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey, as well as the National Centre for Birds of Prey in Helmsley.

Just 24 miles from the historic city of York, the cottage is also perfectly positioned for a day exploring one of England’s most fascinating cities. Wander along the ancient city walls, admire the magnificent architecture of York Minster or lose yourself among the cobbled streets, independent boutiques, cafés and restaurants of the city centre. With its rich history, vibrant culture and abundance of things to see and do, York makes an excellent addition to any stay in the area.
